Spoiler Alert
My blog title is a bit misleading but true so read on……
Life sucks when we’re all living in our bubble so I’ve decided to think about last year- before the world as we know it shut down.
I had a 2 day layover with my gal pal Norma. Not exactly sure why, but every time we have a layover together amazing things happen.
Here is a photo at Selfridge’s while we watched the final Wimbleton match while sipping Prosecco on the rooftop patio. A 5 hr match allowed us enough time to enjoy lots of food, bubbly and newly formed friendships!
Anyways, the first day of our layover we decided live theatre might me fun. We met downstairs after a quick nap and I thought getting tickets for Hamilton might be worth a try. Toronto and New York tickets were priced through the roof but I was thinking London’s show had been running for a while so…… we phoned the Victoria Palace Theatre and BINGO £50 each so why not.
Well I don’t have to say our night was beyond brilliant. One of the best plays I’ve seen and Norma and I continually remind ourselves how lucky we were considering everything shut down a month later.
So if that didn’t make the layover memorable enough, the next day I decided to go to a chocolate shop called Rococo Chocolates in St John’s Wood. This tall, good looking guy walked in and even though he was half my age….still thought he was a cutie. But then I thought “he looks familiar” SHAWN MENDES….I’m almost positive.
So my tactic was to play it cool, not be like all the other drooling fans. When he started talking to the sales person I nonchalantly said “hey, you’re not British, where are you from?” Shawn replied “Pickering”.
“I know where that is. I’m in Beamsville” He had no idea where Beamsville was so I obviously had to explain that to him. The rest is a blur so I’m sure I started rambling and told him my life story. I think I stopped myself just before I blew my cover. Anyways, Shawn was buying chocolates and I’m thinking they were for his girlfriend Camila Cabello. I tried to help a bit but decided I’d talked enough so bought my stash and made my exit.
The rest of the day continued like it began. Norma and I made friends with a guy and his parrots in Primrose Hill. Saw Lily James(Dowton Abbey) at The Queen’s Pub and we finished the afternoon sampling wine at an amazing store called Bottle Apostle.
See how I brought the entire story around to wine as this is a Wine Blog!
Anyways, I guess I wanted to blog about my Valentine’s Day Weekend as it was exactly a year ago and so much has changed. It makes me realize that moments like these should be cherished. You don’t have to become friends with Shawn like I did but you do have to put yourself out there and make the most of each day. If you told me last year that I couldn’t have all these amazing adventures because I’d be stuck in my house for a year, I absolutely would not have believed you!
Moving forward, when I see friends and visit places whether they are down the road or the other side of the world, I’m going to appreciate every minute.
Happy Valentine’s Day
