March Madness and Our Year of Covid

I apologize that this post is not about wine or Beamsville and just a bit on travel.

And if you thought I was going to write about basketball…..well I’ll leave that up to my son!

YES BASKETBALL…..

That’s usually what March Madness is all about. It’s the time when my husband Steve migrates to the basement and our son Nolan hopes his team picks make it to the Final Four!

Nolan’s dunk (in slippers)-and yes I let my husband paint the garage Carolina Blue!!!!!

This year I just think about 2020 and the Madness that happened last March. This was the beginning of what still hasn’t ended.

It’s been surreal. A moment in our lives where we have had to learn how to be happy in our own little bubble. It seems like forever, but a blur. Looking back it sometimes feels like its roared by us with retching clarity of what’s important in life and what we are missing.

I spent my time knitting, sewing, baking, reading, painting, wallpapering, starting a course which was the beginning of this Blog and finally I let my Happy Hour inch closer to lunch than dinner.

My attempt at sour dough bread

I have been blessed to continue working but never in my 35 years have I been afraid of my future like now. This career has been my reality and however unreal it may seem to some, a plane was my office. Paris, London, and Rome layovers, my norm. I’ve paid my dues and have done some crazy-assed flights but I had finally settled in to some great layovers with many good friends and coworkers.

Now my norm is Ottawa layovers but all is good cuz I have spent most of them getting reacquainted with some old and dear friends(at a distance of course)

So….on to 2021

Now I’m blessed to do my Ottawa layovers and not be laid off…

Now I cover up like I’m entering an operating room..

Now I go through the aisles to make sure all passengers are donning their masks properly…

Now I wonder which masked passengers will test positive when they land even though their “negative test” was needed to get on the plane?????

Now I wonder when I’ll see my kids because I don’t want to pass on this virus if I’ve been exposed.

Now I wonder when I’ll be denied entrance somewhere cuz we’re always asked “if I’ve been out of the country in the last 14 days”. (flight attendants call the Toronto to Montreal morning flight, “the covid express” so leaving the country is irrelevant).

Now I wonder how long this shit show will last. When will I get the vaccine? When will I be able to have large family gatherings without the threat of passing on the covid virus. When will this Madness end?

Spring has arrived. Days will now start getting longer even as our patience has gotten shorter.

And I see light at the end of the tunnel and a Girls Getaway for 2022 is already in the works!

Last year’s March Madness took on a whole new meaning.

So take hold of that ball of life and run with it cuz you’ll never get that 3 pointer and win the game if you stop trying before your game is over.

Stay safe and stop by for some sour dough bread!
